Dumka: The decapitated body of a 35-year-old man, who was missing since late last week, was recovered in a village under Rikhia police station limits of Deoghar district on Monday night. The deceased Dilip Kumar Turi’s body was recovered from near a pond in Thadi village. Turi’s family claimed that he was missing for the past three days. His family had lodged a missing report the same day.Turi was identified based on his clothes. His crushed skull was lying nearly 20 feet away while the lower jaw remained attached with the body. Police suspected that Turi had disfigured his face to conceal his identity. Injury marks on the hands indicate that the victim may have struggled with the assailants before being killed. An empty liquor bottle, three water bottles, plastic glasses, and a car key were recovered from the spot.Locals and the police suspected that he was intoxicated before being killed and beheaded.Sub divisional police officer Ashok Kumar Singh and Prabhat Kumar, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Rikhia police station reached the spot on Tuesday and conducted an extensive search operation within a 200-metre radius, but no significant breakthrough could be made. A forensic team and a dog squad were also pressed to collect samples from the site and scan the surrounding area.“We are examining nearby CCTV footage to trace the accused. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem at Deoghar Sadar Hospital,” the OC said..Family members and local residents protested at Baidyanathpur Chowk with Turi’s body on Tuesday for two hours. Traffic was held up as locals burnt tyres raised slogans against the police and district administration.
