Dhanbad: A day after taking the accused in the killing of a debt recovery agent into custody, police said the accused was formally arrested on Monday. They said the accused, Vikas Khandelwal, borrowed Rs 70 lakh from a bank for a business long ago and recovery agent Amit Kumar Mittal, alias Amit Agrawal, was pursuing the former to get back the money. Police said they suspected the involvement of more people in the brutal murder of Agrawal on Saturday. DSP (law and order) Naushad Alam, however, said they were still questioning the accused to ascertain the day of the murder.
“An abduction case was initially registered with the Dhanbad police station based on a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, Sangeeta Devi. Acting swiftly, a special investigation team was formed, led by Dhanbad police station officer in charge Manoj Pandey. Using technical surveillance and other inputs, the team traced the accused,” he said.Police said the accused hid Amit Mittal’s body inside the kitchen of his house. In an attempt to mislead the police, he threw the victim’s mobile phone near Dhangi Pahadi.Alam added, “The accused planned to dispose of the body to erase evidence and mislead the investigation. He also attempted to cut the body into pieces and had partially dismembered it. However, he could not carry out his plan fully and instead hid the body in the kitchen.”
