Mumbai: Bombay HC recently gave anticipatory bail to a 30-year-old accused of raping his former girlfriend.Justice Nitin Borkar said, “It appears that though in March 2024 itself, the [27-year-old woman] got to know about the marriage, she lodged the [complaint] on May 9, 2025.” He said “the alleged physical relationship... appears to be consensual.” The prosecution said the two came in contact through Instagram. In Sept 2019, the man called her to his house and on the alleged assurance of marriage, he persuaded her to have sex then and on multiple occasions. In 2023, he went to the US. In March 2024, she came across his wedding photos online. The man’s advocate, Shashikant Chandak, said when he got married, they were no longer dating. In April 2025, she sent him a legal notice seeking an unconditional apology. When he did not, the false FIR was lodged, said Chandak. TNN
