Amritsar: A mysterious power outage at the residence of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, who died by suicide, has triggered fresh concerns about the security of the bereaved family. The family alleged deliberate tampering with the electricity supply and expressed concern about their security.Talking to the mediapersons, Varinder Pal, a member of the bereaved family, said the electricity supply went off when police officials were present in the house to record statements.“Initially, we thought it was a routine power cut or a technical fault. But when electricity was restored in neighbouring houses late at night, and our house remained without power, we suspected something was wrong,” said Varinder Pal.An electrician was called in, and it was found that the wires leading from the electricity meter to the house had been deliberately cut. The family immediately informed the police.Senior police officials rushed to the spot and scanned CCTV footage from the area. According to the family, the footage showed two unidentified persons allegedly carrying out the act before fleeing. The family termed the incident a “well-planned attempt to intimidate” them and raised serious questions about their safety despite police presence. They demanded that Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann order a CBI probe into the suicide case to ensure the truth comes out.The police have stepped up security outside the residence, but the family maintains that they continue to feel unsafe.Randhawa ended his life after being allegedly subjected to mental harassment and torture at the hands of former transport minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, and his personal assistant Dilbagh Singh.MSID:: 129864579 413 |
