Ranchi: The city soaked in a vibrant blend of devotion and festivities on Saturday as preparations peaked for Easter Sunday, marking the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.Key stretches like Camil Bulcke Road, Main Road and Morabadi are filled with decorative lights, buntings and floral displays, especially around prominent churches. Florists in Upper Bazar and Main Road reported a sharp spike in demand for white lilies, considered a symbol of purity and resurrection.“We’ve stocked extra lilies and roses this year. By evening, most get sold out,” said Rakhi, a florist.Bitttu, who puts up a stall near a cemetery at Kantatoli said that customers search for various types of flowers and flower baskets. A rose is being sold at Rs 20, while flower baskets start from Rs 150 onwards.Another florist at Khadgada said, “Customer don’t look at prices while buying for Easter. We have everything for everyone. From one flower to a basket and bouquets, the price varies.”Churches, including St Mary’s Cathedral and Gossner Evangelical Lutheran Church, are being adorned with elaborate floral arrangements and illuminated crosses. Special sunrise services, Easter vigil masses and choir performances are lined up for Sunday. “Easter reminds us that after suffering comes hope. The Resurrection is central to our belief,” said David Fernandes, a priest at the cathedral.Bakeries are bustling with activity, preparing plum cakes, hot cross buns and themed Easter treats. “Orders have gone up by nearly 40%. Families are planning get-togethers after prayers,” said Disha Mariam, a bakery owner at Lalpur. Children are eagerly awaiting Easter egg hunts, while households prepare festive meals.
