Ramgarh: The Ramgarh Nagar Parishad, formed in February 2015, is fully prepared for the urban civic polls to elect a chairman and 32 ward members in the expanding non-military area of Ramgarh town. Meanwhile, there will be no election in the 85-year-old Cantonment Board of the Ramgarh garrison town, under the administrative control of the defence estate, ministry of defence. No election has been held in this urban body under the ministry of defence since 2015 as it awaits merger with the Ramgarh Nagar Parishad.The long-awaited merger is still under consideration by the urban development department of the state govt after the Union govt decided to merge all 62 cantonment boards across the country, including the one in Ramgarh, with local municipal bodies of the respective states.
A total of 97,698 voters, including 49,238 male and 48,460 female, in Ramgarh Nagar Parishad will exercise their franchise to elect one chairman and 31 ward members at 98 polling stations set up in 60 buildings. One member from Ward 16 was elected unopposed, the administration said in a statement.
