The Rajasthan government has announced a semiconductor policy aimed at attracting investments in assembly, testing and packaging activities, as states line up to tap the Centre’s ₹40,000-crore outlay under India Semiconductor Mission 2.0.
The policy identifies dedicated semiconductor corridors and offers fast-track land allotment, coordinated utilities and single-window clearances to draw OSAT and ATMP projects into the state.
According to the policy, the Jodhpur–Pali–Marwar and Kankani industrial areas will be declared priority semiconductor corridors. These corridors will offer fast-track land allotment, coordinated utility provisioning, and single-window registration to facilitate investments. Other suitable industrial areas may also be notified as semiconductor corridors based on project requirements.
The policy focuses on attracting investments in Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) units and Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facilities. Sensor manufacturing and associated electronics segments have also been identified as target areas. The government plans to promote anchor investments and develop semiconductor parks to support these activities.
In addition, the policy seeks to strengthen the fabless semiconductor design ecosystem in the state. Projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission will be eligible for incentives as per applicable central government guidelines. The initiative is expected to contribute to domestic semiconductor production and generate employment in technology-oriented sectors.
To support operational requirements of semiconductor units, the state government will ensure the availability of essential infrastructure, including water, power, and other basic utilities. Investors will be required to apply for setting up semiconductor units through the Rajnivesh portal.
For effective implementation of the policy, two committees will be constituted: the State Level Sanctioning Committee (SLFC) and the State Empowered Committee. The Industries and Commerce Department will serve as the nodal department for coordination and execution.
At the national level, the semiconductor sector is being supported through multiple initiatives. The Government of India launched the India Semiconductor Mission in 2021 to promote domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
In the recent Union Budget, a provision of ₹40,000 crore was announced for India Semiconductor Mission 2.0. The sector also receives support through Production Linked Incentive schemes and programmes such as Make in India, Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing, Semicon India, and the India Semiconductor Mission.
