Pune: A special court (NDPS Act) has granted bail to Ravikumar Kurmi, a Rajasthan resident arrested at the city airport with 2,299.44 grams of hydroponic weed. According to the prosecution, the contraband was seized from Kurmi after he arrived on a flight from Bangkok. Subsequently an FIR wasregistered for offences punishable under s8(c), 20(b)(ii)(b) and 29 of the NDPD Act on December 8, 2025.The defence contended that the seized quantity of contraband was of intermediate nature and not commercial quantity, and therefore, the rigour of Section 37 of the NDPS Act would not apply. It also submitted that the investigation was complete and the charge-sheet had been filed before the special court. The prosecution opposed the plea, arguing that the accused might influence witnesses or repeat the offence if released. After hearing arguments from both sides and examining the record, the court observed that the seized contraband was of intermediate quantity and the investigation was complete. The court noted that nothing remained to be seized from the accused and he had no criminal antecedent. Holding that continued detention was not necessary, the court allowed the bail application and directed Kurmi’s release on a personal bond of Rs25,000 with surety, subject to conditions.
