Gurgaon: The city witnessed light rain in some parts of the city on Friday evening, bringing down the temperature by nearly three degrees. The day started on a partly cloudy note and a sunny afternoon. By evening, the city witnessed a light rain spell, accompanied by gusty winds up to speeds of 40 kmph.IMD issued an orange alert for Friday and Saturday, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds ranging between 40 kmph and 70 kmph. Light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue through Saturday under the influence of an active western disturbance.The maximum temperature settled at 32.8°C, a slight drop from 35.9°C recorded a day earlier. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.4°C at the Gurgaon KVK observatory, while the NorthCap University monitoring station registered a minimum of 22.6°C.Meteorologists said two successive western disturbances are expected to affect northwest India this week, with peak activity on April 3-4 and again around April 7.The current system is seen as a cyclonic circulation over south Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan, extending from lower to upper tropospheric levels. Additionally, upper-air cyclonic circulations over northeast Pakistan and Haryana are further intensifying atmospheric activity over the region, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms and gusty winds.Compared to Thursday, the average maximum temperature saw a drop of 3.6°C and remained 1.7°C below normal for the state. The highest maximum temperature in Haryana was recorded at 34.8°C in Nuh.“A gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C across Haryana till April 4, followed by a slight rise of 2-3°C on April 5 and 6. Another dip of 3-5°C is expected between April 7 and 9. Temperatures are likely to remain normal to below normal till April 9,” the IMD said.
