Kanpur: The city witnessed a rainy day on the second consecutive day on Monday. The rains turned the weather pleasant bringing down the mercury level. Approximately 60 mm of rainfall was recorded on Sunday evening and intermittent showers began on Monday afternoon. Maximum temperature of 32.9 degrees Celsius, 3.8 degree below the normal was recorded in the city on Monday and the minimum temperature also dipped to 24.4 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees below the average. However, the humidity reached a high of 94% after the showers. The south-easterly wind speed was recorded at 4.2 kmph, offering some relief. Meteorological predictions indicate that Kanpur division and surrounding areas are likely to witness light to moderate showers over the next three days. Meanwhile, due to the rain, a major portion of road collapsed at three locations in the city and many areas had to suffer waterlogging. At Brahma Nagar crossing, a road caved in, resulting in a pit around 10 feet deep. Fortunately, no one was injured as the incident occurred at night when the traffic was less. A portion of road also collapsed near the school for the blinds in Jawahar Nagar, creating a five-foot pit. The third incident of road collapse was reported in Swarup Nagar on Monday morning. The wall of a school in Arya Nagar collapsed due to rainfall. At some places, electric poles got damaged due to rains and strong winds.
