Kalaburagi: The heavy rain that lashed Kalaburagi district on Tuesday night brought significant relief to farmers. The continuous rainfall caused drains to overflow in Sidhanur village of Afzalpur taluk, leading to the collapse of a local bridge. The timely rainfall particularly benefited short-duration crops like green gram and black gram, which were showing signs of stress due to moisture deficit. These crops, at their crucial flowering stage, were previously showing signs of wilting. The red gram crop, which was struggling with stunted growth, is now expected to recover well. However, the intense rainfall also caused some infrastructure damage. The connectivity between Sidhanur and Revoor was disrupted due to a submerged bridge. In Ingalgi village of Chittapur taluk, a tower-shaped wall collapsed due to the heavy rains. The agricultural community is particularly relieved as the district was experiencing a dry spell. The rainfall not only revived the withering crops but also improved soil moisture conditions. Farmers are now optimistic about better yields from their kharif crops.Waterbodies and reservoirs in the region have started filling up, which will help maintain groundwater levels. Local authorities are monitoring the situation, particularly in low-lying areas where waterlogging has been reported.Agricultural experts suggest that this rainfall will positively impact the overall crop production in the region, provided there is no excess precipitation leading to waterlogging. The district administration has advised farmers to ensure proper drainage in their fields to prevent crop damage from water stagnation.
