Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A comprehensive ticket checking drive was held in Nanded Division of the South Central Railway on March 26 to curb illegal or invalid travel.Shailesh Kumar Singh, assistant commercial manager, Nanded, on Sunday told TOI that between 6am and 8pm, as many as 500 cases of unauthorised travel were detected.“Around 28 ticket checking personnel participated in the special drive and 25 trains operating on various routes were inspected. A total of 500 cases involving ticketless travel, irregular travel and unbooked luggage were detected. Action, in accordance to railway rules, was taken,” he said.In 449 cases of ticketless travel, an amount of Rs 2,14,410 in fare and Rs 1,15,190 in fines was recovered. Additionally, from 15 cases of irregular travel Rs 3,730 in fare and Rs 3,750 in fines was recovered. Furthermore, a sum of Rs 5,500 was recovered from 36 cases of Unbooked Luggage (UBL).Stating that regular ticket checking drives will be conducted in future too, the Railway administration has appealed to all passengers to always travel with a valid ticket and to ensure that any luggage carried during the journey is booked in accordance with the rules.“Traveling without a ticket or engaging in irregular travel is a punishable offense under the Railways Act. Passengers are requested to cooperate with the administration to ensure a safe, convenient and comfortable journey,” Chief publicity inspector of Nanded division of SCR, Rajesh Shinde said.
