Patna: In a major step towards ensuring passenger safety and safeguarding passengers’ belongings, the railways has installed high-tech CCTV cameras at 31 stations under the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR). However, installation work is currently underway at 17 more stations across the division.According to Danapur senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) Abhinav Siddarth, the newly installed surveillance system is equipped with advanced GPS-based control technology, enabling railway security personnel to maintain close vigil on miscreants and anti-social elements attempting to sneak into railway premises. “The state-of-the-art monitoring mechanism would significantly strengthen station security and improve response time during emergencies,” he said.Apart from Patna Junction, the CCTV facilities have been made available at Danapur, Dumraon, Mokama, Lakhisarai, Hathidah, Biharsharif, Jamui, Jhajha, Khusrupur, Punpun, Jehanabad, Hilsa, Parsa Bazar, Barh, Islampur and other stations. “The surveillance work is also in progress at several other stations including Sheikhpura, Warsaliganj, Tilaiya, Giddhaur, Barahiya, Rampur Dumra and other additional stations in the division,” Siddarth said.Under the new security system, railway protection force (RPF) personnel will receive immediate alerts about any suspicious activity or untoward incidents on station premises. “The round-the-clock surveillance is also expected to help prevent thefts and trace incidents involving missing minor children or newborns within station premises,” he said.
