Chennai: Indian Railways extended the deadline for passengers to change their boarding point, allowing modifications up to the preparation of the second and final reservation chart, typically around 30 minutes before the departure of a train. The revised provision came into effect on April 1, 2026, and replaced the earlier rule under which passengers were required to submit requests at least 24 hours in advance and before the preparation of the first reservation chart.According to a press release issued by Southern Railway, the change follows a shift in chart preparation timelines. The first reservation chart is now generally prepared eight to 10 hours before departure, often on the previous night, instead of four hours prior as per earlier practice. The facility is available only for passengers holding confirmed or RAC tickets. Boarding point changes are not permitted for waitlisted tickets. The boarding station can be modified only once, and once updated, passengers must board the train from the revised station.
