Hyderabad: Ahead of polling to 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations on Feb 11, deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday urged voters to question why they should support BRS, alleging the party looted the state for 10 years and pushed it into massive debt.Addressing a public meeting after a rally in Wyra municipality of Khammam district, he said the previous BRS govt failed to provide 2-BHK houses or house sites to the poor during its 10-year tenure. He said the Congress govt had revived the Indiramma housing scheme to ensure dignity and self-respect for the poor.“The Congress govt is giving 5 lakh financial assistance for construction of each Indiramma house. The construction of a majority of the 4.50 lakh Indiramma houses sanctioned in the first phase has been completed. We are spending 22,500 crore on Indiramma housing so that the poor can live with dignity and self respect,” Bhatti said.Bhatti said he was a native of the Wyra region and, as deputy CM, would personally take responsibility for the development of the town. He appealed to people to ensure the victory of all Congress and its alliance candidates in the municipal elections. He described the municipal elections as a referendum on Wyra’s development and urged voters to think carefully before casting their votes.“Every foundation laying and inauguration of development works in Wyra took place during Congress govt tenure. The previous BRS govt did not take up a single new initiative. The Shanti Colony, SC and ST colonies were all established during the Congress govt tenures,” Bhatti claimed, adding that electricity facilities, hospitals, colleges and degree colleges came to Wyra during Congress rule.
