New Delhi: Delhi Assembly’s Gate No. 2 appeared heavily fortified on Tuesday, a day after an SUV broke through it and its boom barrier, sparking a massive security breach.Apart from a multilayer cordon securing it, other gates of the assembly were also tightly guarded. Police and paramilitary personnel were deployed, and the entire area was under extensive CCTV coverage.Three security personnel – an SI and ASI of Delhi Police and a CRPF staffer, who were deployed at Gate No. 2 on Monday – have been suspended.TOI found a PCR van outside the gate on Tuesday. Two cops ensured that no vehicles halted there. They said they were on the job since morning and questioned people lingering nearby.The gate was shielded by a tight cordon – five barricades linked together with ropes, followed by a locked steel gate that had been damaged during Monday’s intrusion, another set of barricades beyond it and a boom barrier. Inside the gate, two cops, including a woman officer, were stationed, while a couple of CRPF personnel manned the security booths and another patrolled the area.A PCR vehicle was parked at the gate of the nearby Vidhan Sabha metro station. A few metres away, e-rickshaws lined up.A group of e-rickshaw drivers waiting for passengers said most of them had witnessed the SUV entering the assembly premises and speeding out of it on Monday. “As he (Sarabjit Singh) was driving off, a bus was approaching. He waved it to stop and then melted into the traffic,” one of the e-rickshaw drivers said.Gaurav (30), who claimed that the SUV had hit his e-rickshaw before barrelling into the premises, said the impact damaged his vehicle and repairing it will cost Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000. “I was lucky I was not injured,” he said. Close to Gate No. 2 of the assembly is Gate No. 3, which a cop in plain clothes was seen inspecting on Tuesday even as it was being welded and reinforced to prevent a similar breach. Another cop and a CRPF man were nearby. The premises’ main entrance, Gate No. 1, was guarded by seven security personnel, two near it and the rest a few metres away. They were seen stopping vehicles entering the assembly and allowing only its officials and workers.CRPF personnel were deployed at Gate No. 6 of the assembly. Private security guards were stationed at the gates of the office of the directorate of education, which runs out of the assembly premises. Around 11.30 pm, a white car stopped near Gate No. 5, prompting a sharp whistle. A security officer immediately asked the driver to keep moving.
