Chandigarh: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday approved direct recruitment for 70 posts in the state planning department.Cheema formal approval had been granted to fill various Group A, B and C posts under the Directorate of Statistics, and the Economic Policy and Planning Board. Of the 70 vacancies, 68 posts will be filled in the Directorate of Statistics, including 14 assistant research officers, 4 senior assistants and 50 investigators.He said the Punjab cabinet had earlier proposed recruitment of 140 posts across the two institutions. “During the cabinet meeting held on March 29, approval was granted to fill 50% of the proposed posts, taking the total approved vacancies for the current recruitment drive to 70,” he said.The finance minister said the formal requisition would now be sent to the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (SSB), which would take further steps to expedite the recruitment process and fill the vacancies transparently at the earliest.
