Patna: The Patna University (PU) senate on Saturday passed a Rs 498 crore deficit budget for the 2026-27 financial year during a meeting chaired by vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh.The budget will now be sent to the state govt for inclusion in the annual state budget.Presenting the budget, dean of students’ welfare Kameshwar Pandit said the university estimated expenditure at Rs 535 crore against an income of Rs 36 crore from various sources. The remaining expenditure is expected to be met through grants from the education department, science and technology department, directorate of distance education and vocational courses.The Senate also approved admission ordinances and examination regulations for two new courses to be introduced from the next academic session — postgraduate forensic science and a BA course in human resource management for ex-servicemen.A resolution seeking establishment of an academic chair in the name of Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur in PU was unanimously passed.During the meeting, teachers demanded notification of pending promotions, while students sought regular interaction with the vice-chancellor and resolution of their grievances.
