Margao: A proposed two-storeyed structure by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) inside the Margao municipal garden has triggered protests.Congress functionary Chirag Naik on Friday launched a hunger strike inside the garden in protest. Police attempted to stop Naik from proceeding, but the businessman went ahead, drawing locals to join him.“The heritage value of the garden will be destroyed with such construction,” he said. Prabhav Naik of Madganvcho Awaaz has written to GSIDC seeking a halt to the tender process for the Rs 4 crore project. The deadline for submitting tenders is March 27, and the opening date is March 30.MMC chairperson Damodar Shirodkar said the existing RCC structure — where the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav is celebrated annually — would be reconstructed, with seating space to be provided on the upper floor.
