Kurukshetra: Kurukshetra police have arrested a man for allegedly duping a local resident of several lakhs on the pretext of sending his son to the United States. Acting on the directions of superintendent of police Nitish Aggarwal, a team of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested Jagjit Singh, alias Samar, a resident of Pehowa.Jagjit was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.According to police, the complaint was filed on August 26, 2025, by Jaswant Singh of Sandhu Farm, Morthali. Jaswant claimed that in 2022, he was introduced to Jagjit and Harpreet Kaur, who claimed they could arrange overseas travel for his son. An agreement of Rs 35 lakh was finalised, with half the amount to be paid upfront. The complainant initially transferred Rs 5 lakh and later gave another Rs 5 lakh after being told that the visa had been arranged.On June 18, 2022, the accused sent the complainant’s son to Dubai, after which the remaining Rs 25 lakh was paid. However, the youth was never sent onward to Europe or the US and eventually returned to India. When Jaswant demanded his money and documents back, the accused allegedly refused and issued threats.A case was registered at City Pehowa Police Station and investigation is underway.
