Hyderabad: The Telangana govt notified the Gurramguda forest area under the Amangal Division as a Reserve Forest, bringing closure to a legal dispute that continued for several years.Officials said the Gurramguda forest area, covering 424 acres and 31 guntas, lies on the outskirts of Hyderabad, where urban expansion increased pressure on open and green spaces in recent years. The Environment, Forests, Science and Technology Department issued the order declaring the land a Reserve Forest under Section 15 of the Telangana Forest Act, 1967. With the notification, the legal process related to the land was completed, formalising its status for future use.According to forest officials, a portion of the land — 102 acres in Sahebnagar Kalan village — was the subject of a prolonged legal dispute, commonly referred to as the Sahebnagar Kalan case. The issue was heard in different courts over the years before the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the forest department, confirming the status of the land as forest property.Officials said the ruling helped settle claims over the land. The area’s notification as a Reserve Forest comes with certain legal protections under forest laws. The state govt is examining plans to develop the area as an urban forest park.
