Varanasi: A series of religious events organised at different places across the city marked the grand celebration of Hanuman Jayanti on Thursday. At Sankatmochan Temple, the festivity began with special adornment, tableau, aarti and worship of Lord Hanuman. In the morning, a shehnai recital was held, followed by Rudrabhishek by Brahmins, recitation of Shri Ramcharit Manas, Shri Sitaram Sankirtan, Ramarchapujan and recitation of Sundarkand from Shri Ramcharit Manas. A sankirtan programme by the kirtan mandalis of Ramakrishna Mission was also held. It was followed by Akhand Paath of Ramcharit Manas by Ramayana mandalis.A Dhwaj Yatra was organised by Shri Hanumat Seva Samiti (Nevada). The yatra commenced at Bhikhaaripur Tiraha, where 11 Brahmins performed the worship of Ram Darbar on a 60-foot-long chariot-vehicle and of Hanuman enshrined in a palanquin. The beats of over 200 damrus and thundering of dhol-nagaras infused energy among devotees. After the aarti by guests at the main office located in Nevada, the yatra proceeded towards Sankat Mochan Darbar.In the yatra, 1,100 devotees marched carrying ‘gada’ (mace)-the symbol of Lord Hanuman. The ‘Nari Vahini’ of Koniya office demonstrated their prowess through sword and staff displays. The Aghori contingent from Nevada, the Garbhagriha replica from Janakinagar and the Tahalka Dhamaal Band from Madhya Pradesh via Bajardeehan remained the centre of attraction. The special tableau of Abhiyan Pavitra Kashi drew everyone’s attention, conveying the message of preserving the sanctity of the city. It was attended by saints, mahants .
