Varanasi: The process to forfeit the property of codeine cough syrup smuggling syndicate kingpin Shubham Jaiswal has begun, with Sarnath police pasting notices of attachment at his residence in Sigra area on Wednesday. According to police, the property had earlier been attached during action initiated against his jailed father, Bhola Prasad Jaiswal. A team led by Sarnath police station in-charge Pankaj Kumar Tripathi carried out the exercise, pasting copies of notices and warrants by fast-track court.Officials said that if Shubham continues to remain absconding and fails to appear before the court or investigating officer within the stipulated time, further proceedings for permanent attachment and forfeiture of his property will be initiated.Police said multiple cases related to codeine cough syrup smuggling involving Shubham’s gang have been registered at various police stations, including Kotwali, Rohaniya and Sarnath in Varanasi, while a parallel investigation is also being carried out by Sonbhadra police.Earlier, properties in the name of his father Bhola Prasad Jaiswal and other family members had already been attached by police teams from Sonbhadra and Rohaniya as part of action against the syndicate.Station in-charge Pankaj Kumar Tripathi said that in the case registered at Sarnath police station, the process related to attachment of Bhola’s property has been completed, and that efforts are now focused on ensuring the early arrest of Shubham.
