Belagavi: A 25-year-old pregnant woman was detected positive for Covid-19 in Belagavi. With this detection, the health department has jumped into action. District health and family welfare officer Dr Ishwar Gadad held a press conference and urged children and elderly people to be careful.Speaking to media on Saturday, Dr Ishwar Gadad said that the number of Covid-19 cases in the state has been increasing over the past 20 days, with one case reported in Belagavi. A pregnant woman in Belagavi district tested positive for the virus, and children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with sensitive health should be vigilant, he said.Covid cases came to light in Singapore. Around 30 cases have also been registered in Karnataka, he explained, and said that the travel history of the infected person is being reviewed. Primary and secondary contacts have been identified and tested. It is confirmed that they do not have the infection, Dr Gadad said.“Those who have been vaccinated against Covid infection need not worry. People’s immunity has increased now. The fear that existed during the first wave of is no longer there, but the symptoms of infection and the consequences of the disease remain the same. Diabetics, children, and those with low immunity should be keep safe. If you have a mild body ache, cold, or fever, you should not ignore it; you should immediately visit the hospital for examination and treatment,” he said.Necessary preparations have already been made at BIMS (Belagavi Institute of Medical Science) and all taluk hospitals to provide treatment to Covid patients. There is no need for the public to panic. We have so far tested more than 10 suspects for Covid. All have come back negative. However, Covid infections are increasing in Maharashtra. The state govt has also advised following some guidelines. The health department will take action accordingly.Ten beds have been reserved at BIMS Hospital. All doctors and staff of the health department have been advised and asked to take precautionary measures, Dr Ishwar Gadad added.The case detected in Belagavi has not yet been tested to determine whether it is the Singapore virus or the old virus. About 3,000 doctors are ready to manage Covid. Children, pregnant women, and the elderly should wear masks compulsorily, he suggested.
