Kharagpur: A pregnant elephant was found dead in a paddy field in Midnapore on Friday. This comes merely a day after the death of a calf in Jhargram. Forest department has begun an investigation.The adult elephant’s body was discovered early on Friday in Shirshi area of Midnapore Sadar Block, under Chandura Range. For the past few days, around 20-22 elephants have been frequenting paddy fields in the area.By 9am, foresters along with cops from the Gurguripal police station, arrived at the scene. Initial assumption is that the elephant died from overeating.
