Mangaluru: Even minor lapses in evidence collection can significantly affect the outcome of criminal cases, ACP CCRB, Mangaluru City police, Geetha D Kulkarni said, stressing the need for precision, accountability and coordination among investigating officers.She was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of CRIFO 2K26, a two-day international summit on ‘Forensic Fusion: Intuition to Innovation’, held at Maria Paiva Hall of the School of Social Work (Autonomous), Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru.The summit was organised by the postgraduate department of criminology and forensic science and the internal quality assurance cell (IQAC) of Roshni Nilaya, in collaboration with AVZ Cyber Security Solutions LLC, Dubai, and Avanzo Cyber Security Solutions Pvt Ltd, India.Referring to the evolution of the digital world and its impact on crime and investigation, Kulkarni cited real-life cases to underline the growing importance of digital and forensic expertise. She explained the process of evidence collection and said it plays a critical role in effective investigation and justice delivery. Proper handling, preservation and documentation of evidence, she added, are necessary to ensure its integrity and admissibility in court.Pattathil Dhanya Menon, partner and CTO, AVZ Cyber Security Solutions LLC, Dubai, and founder and managing director, Avanzo Cyber Security Solutions Pvt Ltd, India, highlighted the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and industry in advancing forensic science and cyber security.The presidential address was delivered by Meena Monteiro, dean, department of PG studies.
