T’puram: The food safety department issued strict guidelines to ensure food safety during the upcoming Attukal Pongala, which will be held on March 3.In a statement issued by the department on Monday, authorities directed all food establishments operating in connection with the festival to strictly adhere to food safety standards to safeguard the health of the public. All food businesses were instructed to prominently display copies of their food safety licence or registration certificate at their establishments. During inspections, operators must produce valid medical fitness certificates for all employees and water quality test certificates if water is used for cooking or food preparation. As part of the festival arrangements, the department will conduct an awareness class for food business operators and cooking workers on Thursday. Participation is mandatory for those operating within the festival zone. Food entrepreneurs must register in advance via email. Institutions, organizations and individuals planning to distribute free meals, snacks, soft drinks or drinking water must obtain prior registration from the department. The facility for registration is available at Akshaya centres.
