Ludhiana: Out in the field from morning till night for the past several months, poll-weary Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who contested the just concluded Ludhiana West byelection on a Congress ticket, finally caught up on sleep on Friday. Ever since the poll code came into effect, he could barely manage four to five hours of sleep a day. His day would start as early as 4am and he would wind up the public meetings and campaign by midnight.Ashu said, “I slept till late in the morning today and devoted the rest of the day to my family.”He had been in the field since Jan, meeting old allies and reviving past relations. The frequency of his meetings increased once the byelections were announced.Sharing his poll schedule, Ashu said, “I would be up at 4 in the morning and go for public meetings in the parks, etc. Until noon, I would remain outdoors. In the afternoon, I would hold meetings with my teams indoors. Again, in the evening, we would go for door-to-door campaigns and public meetings, which would go on till late at night.”Heaving a sigh of relief, he said, “Today, I simply slept. I remained at home all day with my family. I played a block puzzle game on my tab. Doing nothing after so many days was extremely refreshing. But did I miss not being around workers and people, with whom I got to spend so much time over all these months.”
