Nagpur: The city police’s Cyber Cell has intensified its crackdown on social media accounts spreading misinformation about a fuel shortage, which has triggered panic buying. DCP (cyber) Lohit Matani urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified information on fuel availability or war-related issues, warning that violators will face action under relevant cyber laws.Over the past week, the cyber patrolling team scanned more than 420 posts, identifying 90 related to alleged shortages of petrol and LPG cylinders. Six posts were flagged, removed, and the respective police stations were alerted.“We will now initiate legal action,” said Matani, adding that the team is also monitoring communally sensitive content, particularly posts linked to the ongoing war.“Our surveillance is continuous. We are keeping a close watch on platforms to curb rumours before they escalate,” he said, noting that such posts often exploit global events to create unnecessary panic.
