Ludhiana: Police are probing personal enmity as the likely motive behind the murder of 55-year-old Sonam Jain, who was found dead in her Punjabi Bagh home on Sunday afternoon. Investigators believe the crime was not a robbery, as valuables, including gold ornaments and cash, were left untouched.Security footage shows a man, believed to be familiar with the victim, entering the house freely through an unlocked main gate around 11.5 am. The man, wearing a cap, re-emerged briefly before going back inside and finally leaving 20 minutes later. His face remained obscured by the cap, and he has not been identified.Jain’s husband, Satinder Kumar Jain, who works in a local factory, left for work around 10 a.m. and discovered his wife’s body near the bathroom when he returned home for lunch at about 2.15 pm. Assistant commissioner of police (north) Devinder Chaudhary has said the suspect appeared to be acquainted with the victim and may have known about the home’s CCTV setup. “The fact that the woman was wearing gold ornaments and nothing was taken points to a motive beyond robbery. The killer likely intended only to murder her,” he said. The couple lived alone in their residence, with both sons settled abroad. The Salem Tabri police have registered a murder case against an unidentified accused based on Satinder Kumar Jain’s statement. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and exploring connections in the victim’s personal circle. Investigations are in progress. MSID:: 122006550 413 |
