Srinagar, Mar 03: Srinagar Police on Monday registered an FIR against individuals and media outlets found circulating “false” and “misleading” information on electronic and social media platforms, warning of strict legal action against those involved.
FIR No. 01 of 2026 has been registered at the Cyber Police Station under relevant legal provisions, a police spokesperson said, adding that several profiles have been identified and the concerned individuals summoned to the Cyber Cell. Investigation is underway.
Police said certain news channels, media outlets, and individuals have been systematically spreading distorted narratives and unverified content with the intent to incite unrest and disturb public order.
Citizens and media organisations have been advised to verify information from official and credible sources before sharing content that could disturb communal harmony, the spokesperson said
Srinagar Police said it remains committed to maintaining law and order and will not allow any attempt to destabilise peace in the region.
