Surat: Umra police foiled an extortion attempt worth Rs 5 lakh on Saturday evening, arresting three men posing as police officers — including a sub-inspector — during a raid at an apartment in the posh Parle Point area. The operation also led to the arrest of two women involved in the honey-trap racket.According to police, a 36-year-old construction supervisor employed with a city-based builder was lured through a ‘female service’ listing on a website. He was directed to an apartment in Parle Point, where a woman demanded Rs 1,000 as advance before taking him to another room.At that point, three men impersonating a sub-inspector, constable, and writer threatened the victim with a false rape case unless he paid Rs 5 lakh.Police inspector J A Rathwa said, “Based on a tip-off, our team raided the apartment during the extortion negotiation. We found the accused, the honey-trap victim, and seized fake police identity cards. Six people, including two women, have been booked for extortion, impersonation, and other offences.”The accused arrested are Akash Vaghela, Piyush Goswami, Khetaram Parmar, Rajvi Devganiya, Princy Rajput, while Ramesh Pal remains absconding, police said.
