Pune: Suspended police constable Ganesh Jagtap was arrested from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh late on Sunday night in a cheating case.A police team headed by senior inspector Rahul Khilare of the Bharati Vidyapeeth arrested Jagtap. Pune commissioner of police (CP) Amitesh Kumar said, “We suspended Jagtap after the case was registered, but he never appeared before the inquiry committee.“Deputy commissioner of police (Zone II) Milind Mohite told TOI, “A case of cheating was registered against Jagtap three months ago with the Bharati Vidyapeeth police. Similar cases of cheating were registered against him at Kothrud and Chatushrungi police stations.”He said, “Jagtap evaded arrest for almost three years and constantly shifted base. Our team located a phone number operational from Kadapa. Without wasting any time, the police personnel went to Kadapa and arrested him.”Mohite said, “Jagtap cheated a person from the Bharati Vidyapeeth area of Rs16 lakh after borrowing the sum from him. The suspended constable, instead of returning the borrowed money, he told the lender that nobody could harm him because he was in the police.”“The Wanowrie police had arrested Jagtap in a case of cheating and forgery a few years ago. After obtaining bail in the case, he rejoined the state police services,” he said.
