Nagpur: A public playground in North Nagpur’s Anandnagar has become a stark example of civic neglect, triggering anger among residents. The ground, which houses green gym, public well, open play areas, and washrooms, has fallen into disrepair over the years. What was meant to be a safe recreational space for children and families is now used for grazing, with locals alleging that it turns into a hub for gambling and alcohol consumption after dark. The green gym, installed around six years ago, is in a particularly poor state, with most equipment broken, rusted, or missing. “It was widely used initially, but the lack of maintenance rendered it unusable. The washrooms are also in a deplorable condition,” said resident Shahnawaz Sheikh. The nearly 40-year-old public well has deteriorated significantly, now filled with contaminated water, moss, and garbage. Sanitation remains erratic, with waste accumulating across the premises.Residents say the neglect has rendered the ground unfit for sports and daily use. “The area needs immediate restoration and regular upkeep. Children have no safe space to play,” said Dheeraj Sahare.Congress corporator Rama Uikey said a JCB was deployed recently to clear waste from the site. BJP corporator Abhiruchi Rajgire said she would inspect the area with her team and initiate a proposal for necessary repairs to be placed before the NMC.
