Mapusa: Normal life across Bardez taluka was disrupted as the department of drinking water announced a restricted water supply for Friday and Saturday. The shutdown comes after engineers detected double leakage in the 1,000mm main conveying pipeline, near the Tilari canal crossing at Colvale on Thursday. An official said the first breach was spotted during the day on the primary channel coming from the Assonora water treatment plant. While a contractor and earthmoving machinery were deployed to plug the leak, a second rupture was discovered just a short distance away later in the evening on Thursday. The emergency repair work has forced authorities to shut down the trunk line, resulting in dry taps and low pressure across Mapusa, Calangute, Saligao, Siolim, Thivim, Aldona, and Porvorim constituencies. Prominent localities, including Candolim, Guirim, Nerul, Tivim, Moira and surrounding pockets, are directly affected. The department has appealed to the public to use water sparingly during the crisis. Officials assured that teams are working round the clock and supply will be restored gradually.
