Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old kanwar pilgrim died and two others were injured after their bike collided with a divider on DME in the Bhojpur area. The incident occurred on Sunday night, and the youth succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Monday. The other two are also in a critical condition.According to police, Akash Kumar, had visited Haridwar to collect water for Shivratri along with two friends Anshul Awasthi (25) and Rahul Chaubey (23). All three were residents of Bhangel in Noida. The accident took place while the trio were on their way back from Haridwar. Kumar, who was driving, dozed off right after they crossed the Bhojpur toll plaza on the DME, and their bike collided with the divider.“They all received severe injuries, and commuters informed the police. Immediately, a police team reached the spot and took them to a nearby hospital in Meerut. Akash succumbed to injuries, while Anshul and Rahul are still admitted to the hospital where treatment is underway,” said ACP (Modinagar) Gyan Prakash Rai.Initial investigation revealed that Kumar had dozed off. Commurters also told cops that they were speeding at the time. “The accident was so severe that all three were thrown off their bikes and landed a few metres away,” he said.Kumar succumbed to his injuries on Monday and an autopsy report is awaited. The family members have been informed and no complaint has been registered in the matter so far.Earlier on Sunday, three kanwar pilgrims died and two others were injured when an ambulance collided with two two-wheelers on Delhi-Meerut road near Kadrabad late on Saturday night. The accident occurred amid heavy traffic flow on a single operational lane, as the other carriageway was closed for kanwar yatra.According to police, the tragedy unfolded around 11.45pm when the ambulance attached to Jeevan Hospital — returning from Meerut after dropping a patient — encountered a pedestrian on the road. The driver attempted to avoid crashing into the walker by swerving to the right, but ended up colliding with a motorcycle and a scooter, both headed towards Haridwar from Ghaziabad to collect Ganga water.The three persons who died were Sachin Kumar (38) alias Johnny, Abhinav Samania (25), and Ritik Singh (23). Sachin was traveling on a scooter with Ajay Kumar (30) from Mandoli in Delhi, while Abhinav and Ritik were on the motorcycle.
