Panaji: An apartment caught fire in Pilerne on Sunday morning, leaving an elderly woman injured. The woman sustained minor burns and was admitted to Goa Medical College for further treatment. No casualties were reported in the incident.According to the fire officer at Pilerne fire station, they received a call at 7.30am. The fire tender reached the venue within 5 to 7 minutes.The fire officer said that the fire was already contained when the firefighters reached the spot. “The neighbours or the people in the house must have contained the fire before we reached the destination,” the officer said.He added that the elderly woman lived with her granddaughter and that the granddaughter was asleep in the adjacent room when the incident occurred.An air cooler in the kitchen burst, which caused the fire in the apartment. A plastic utensil in the kitchen caught fire, which then quickly spread to the living room, destroying the TV.The loss from the fire was not estimated, and investigation was on.
