Mangaluru: A man was killed and another sustained injuries after a vehicle lost control and overturned into a 10ft deep roadside gorge in Belthangady taluk on Wednesday. According to the complaint lodged by Ramappa Nayak, the accident occurred when his nephew, pickup driver Hemachandra, was driving a pickup vehicle from Naitadka towards Kacheri on the Kanaraje–Kacheri public road.Umarabba was travelling with him in the vehicle. When the vehicle reached Kanaraje in Tekkarru village in Belthangady, the driver allegedly drove in a rash and negligent manner. As a result, on a sloping stretch of road, the driver lost control, and the vehicle overturned and fell into a 10ft deep gorge.
Due to the impact of the accident, both the driver and Umarabba sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to Puttur govt hospital for treatment. However, upon examination, doctors declared driver Hemachandra dead.In this connection, a case was registered at Puttur traffic police station under Sections 281(rash driving), 106 (causing death by negligent act), and 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety) of the BNS.
