‘Peddi’ director Buchi Babu Sana confirmed that the team will be making changes after receiving backlash over Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal in the film. After sharing his apologies on the internet, the director explained how the audience “misread” his intentions he wanted to portray.
Buchi Babu Sana opens up about Janhvi Kapoor’s role
In a conversation with Indian Express, Buchi Babu Sana said, “In my opinion, a lot of people misread Janhvi Kapoor’s track as unnecessary in an otherwise good story.”He talked about the deliberate need to show Ram Charan’s character “radical” drawing parallels with the film’s storyline as he is someone who comes from the hills. He also added how later in the film he wanted to correct him.“I wanted to show the rawness and later correct it in the end, saying that this guy is this way because of his upbringing and atmosphere. For such a character, he thinks he has to marry the woman he loves,” he said.He also acknowledged that during the filming process some shots turned out to be misleading and mentioned that they have trimmed those scenes.For the unversed, after the film’s release a huge section of the audience criticized the film over the scenes shot with Janhvi Kapoor. Audiences criticized camera angles that targeted her body instead of her character. The film also got heat due to a controversial scene where Ram Charan’s character kisses her without her apparent consent.

After the backlash, Buchi Babu Sana took to his social media handle to share a public apology and confirmed that the necessary changes will be made. He wrote, “After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities.”
‘Peddi’ box office collection
Apart from the controversy, the film has been roaring at the box office. On Day 5 the film nearly hit the Rs 250 crore mark globally. The worldwide collections stands at Rs 248.92 crore as per Sacnilk.
