Srinagar, Feb 23: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday visited the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) to address public concerns regarding the functioning of emergency departments in government hospitals.
The delegation was led by Party Spokesperson Mohammad Iqbal Tramboo and included former MLA Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Party Spokesperson Zuhaib Yousuf Mir, and former State Secretary PDP Arif Laigroo.
The leaders met SKIMS Director Dr. Ashraf Ganai over complaints alleging that junior doctors and trainees were attending patients in emergency wings without adequate supervision from senior doctors.
Dr. Ganai personally accompanied the delegation to the emergency wing to review the arrangements on the spot. He informed them that the senior doctors, including specialists holding MD and DM qualifications, were on duty in the emergency ward.
He clarified that the first point of contact for incoming patients is a senior doctor to ensure proper triage and supervision. The Director also briefed the delegation on the augmentation of testing facilities, operation theatres, and other critical care infrastructure.
He stated that the necessary facilities have been strengthened and are being effectively utilised to ensure quality patient care. After reviewing the arrangements, the PDP delegation expressed satisfaction with the systems and supervision in place at SKIMS.
However, the delegation said it would also visit other government hospitals in Srinagar to assess whether similar arrangements areoperational elsewhere, with the aim of addressing public grievances and strengthening confidence in the healthcare system.
