GURGAON: A biweekly roadside market outside Sector 17A has led to long snarls over the past few weeks, prompting residents to reach out to civic authorities. The market, held every Tuesday and Saturday opposite the Sector 17A entrance and next to Netaji Subhash Chandra Park in Sector 14, draws large footfall. “The market has been running for about three weeks now, and traffic piles up quickly as customers park their vehicles along the road. With a signal right there, the situation worsens,” said Rakesh Jinsi, RWA president of Sector 17A.The congestion has made it particularly difficult for pedestrians to cross the busy stretch. “Elderly residents find it unsafe to navigate through the chaos. There is constant movement of vehicles and barely any space to cross,” he added.Residents also flagged disturbances caused by the market’s proximity to Netaji Subhash Chandra Park, a popular spot for evening walks. They also said sanitation has taken a toll in the area, with rotten and discarded produce lying unattended for days. According to residents, heaps of vegetable waste and garbage are left behind after the market disperses.Residents said they have written to MCG, but no action has been taken so far. “Waste remains unattended for days. By the time it is cleared, the next market day arrives and the cycle repeats. We have already submitted complaints to the authorities. We hope the administration takes note and addresses the issue before it worsens,” said Ameeta Dahiya, RWA general secretary. When contacted, MCG Joint Commissioner Ravinder Malik said, “The matter was recently brought to my notice. I have instructed the enforcement team to look into it. They will visit the site to check the situation. If any violations are found, appropriate action will be taken.”
