Madikeri: Senior civil judge and District Legal Services Authority member-secretary Shubha said parents should not compare their children with others based on exam marks, as it can seriously affect young minds.Speaking at a training workshop at the ZP Hall in Madikeri, she urged parents to treat children as friends, guide them with confidence, and avoid putting pressure that harm children’s wellbeing. She also advised them to help children understand that SSLC and PU results are not the final measure of life.The workshop was organised in collaboration with the Kodagu district administration and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for district and taluk-level officers and stakeholders to address challenges in implementing child rights and related laws.Shubha expressed concern over violence against children, noting that Pocso cases has not decreased despite awareness efforts. She said society and officials must work together to prevent such violence.She also emphasised understanding children’s minds, giving special attention, recognising each child’s unique abilities, and encouraging their development.Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights member Venkatesh said children are the wealth of families and society, and that their sensitivity must be understood.Unicef Child Protection Project regional coordinator Dr K Raghavendra Bhat explained the Juvenile Justice Act, the Pocso Act, and children’s rights.NCPCR adviser Shubhi Sharma spoke about corporal punishment, its harmful effects, and the commission’s functioning.ZP deputy secretary GP Chandrashekhar, tahsildar Sridhar, and district child protection officer S Honnegowda were present.
