Aizawl: The total number of pig casualties in the resurgence of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in Mizoram this year has crossed 5,000 (5,044) pigs, state animal husbandry and veterinary department officials said on Sunday.The officials said 17 pigs died in five localities and villages in Siaha district on Sunday. Additionally, 73 localities and villages in four districts — Siaha, Lawngtlai, Lunglei and Mamit — are being declared as ASF-infected. Southern Mizoram’s Siaha district borders Myanmar, while Lawngtlai district shares international borders with both Myanmar and Bangladesh, Lunglei district shares borders with Bangladesh and Mamit district shares a border with Bangladesh and Tripura.While the ASF outbreak is confined to urban areas in Lunglei and Mamit districts, the porcine disease has spread to rural areas in Siaha and Lawngtlai districts.
