Pune: The Deccan Gymkhana police on Saturday and Sunday registered 40 FIRs against stall operators and hawkers for obstructing traffic flow and pedestrians by blocking footpaths on JM Road, FC Road, Bhandarkar Road, near Kamla Nehru Park, Shirole Road, Karve Road, and Khilarewadi Road.“Our action started on Saturday afternoon, and continued up to Sunday evening. We had warned them a few weeks ago, but none paid heed. We have registered FIRs against them and will forward the cases to the court,” senior inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan Gymkhana police.The FIRs were registered under Sections 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation) and 287 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the BNS.“They were selling their wares on the carriageway and footpaths, blocking the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. It can lead to accidents. Several residents had complained,” Nimbalkar said.
