Hyderabad: The Telangana health department on Friday organised a statewide yoga session at Gachibowli Stadium as part of the ongoing health week, with the theme ‘Prevention is better than cure.‘More than 1,000 students, youngsters and yoga instructors took part, while officials later inspected AYUSH department stalls set up at the venue.On the occasion, Health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha emphasised physical and mental well-being, adding that the govt has deployed 750 yoga instructors and introduced yoga to nearly 10 lakh people across the state.“Yoga is one of India’s greatest contributions to the world — not merely an exercise, but a holistic way of life that brings balance to the body, mind and soul.Amid rising sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets and pollution, non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension and cancer are increasing rapidly. “Regular yoga practice not only improves physical health but also reduces stress and enhances overall quality of life, helping prevent such conditions,” he added.He added that the govt is conducting free blood pressure and diabetes screenings for people above 30, while comprehensive health tests are being offered to 46 lakh women’s group members.
