Ahmedabad: More than 10,000 persons participated in the KD Amdavad Marathon on Sunday morning with the message of organ donation. The event took place on the Sabarmati Riverfront and in the Walled City areas. According to organisers, it was the first marathon event of over 32km that included the Heritage Route.Apart from the primary marathon event, other runs included the 21.09km hope half marathon, the 10km life sprint, and the 5km save a life run. The event was supported by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Ahmedabad city police.Dr Adit Desai, managing director of KD Hospital, said that the event highlighted the need to bridge the gap between the increasing need for organ transplants and the number of organ donations. “A conscious decision for organ donation can give someone else a second chance at life. If even a fraction of today’s runners pledges to donate, the impact could be transformative,” he said.KD Hospital conducted more than 211 organ donation awareness programmes across the region, reaching over 3.5 lakh people.
