GURGAON: A 62-year-old Army veteran died on the spot after being mowed down by a speeding truck near Kalwari chowk in the Bilaspur area on Thursday evening.The victim, identified as Kabul Singh, a resident of Khor village, was a soldier who took up farming post-retirement. The incident occurred around 7.30pm when Singh went to the local market at Kalwari Chowk to purchase household supplies.According to police, a truck arriving from the Tauru side — driven at a high, reckless speed — struck Singh with such force that his body was left scattered across the road.The driver managed to flee after the accident. By the time Singh’s son Sandeep reached the spot after receiving a call from a passerby, his father already died of injuries.A team from the Bilaspur police station arrived at the scene with the vehicle shortly after being informed. Police have begun a manhunt for the unidentified driver.The body was shifted to the mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving), 125 (endangering life), and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Bilaspur police station.Police are currently scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed on the Tauru-Bilaspur stretch to identify the truck’s registration number. The body was handed over to the family on Friday following the autopsy.In another accident, a 21-year-old man died after his tractor overturned near a commercial construction site in Sector 12 on Saturday.The victim, identified as Himanshu Rajput, was originally from UP and was residing in Sector 23, Palam Vihar. Rajput was a water supplier and went to refill a tanker at an under-construction commercial site in Sector 12.He lost balance of the vehicle, which overturned and he got crushed underneath it. Police have initiated inquest proceedings in the case.
