Mumbai: Cracking down on unauthorised hawking, illegal stalls and vehicles blocking streets, Oshiwara Police and Borivli Police registered offences and penalised offenders.Oshiwara Police, in association with BMC’s K/West ward officials, carried out drives on Lion Sol Marg, Back Road and Millat Nagar in Andheri West on Thursday. Action was taken against 13 hand carts and 28 illegal stalls. Around 32 two-wheelers and 3 cars were towed for illegal parking. E-challans were issued to 32 motorists, jointly with the Oshiwara Traffic Police, for traffic violations.
“We have registered three offences under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and issued penalties over Rs 90,000,” said senior inspector Sanjay Chavan who led the police team. The BMC provided an excavator and eight lorries for the drive.In a separate drive at Borivli on Tuesday, Borivli Police cracked down on unauthorised hawking at LT Marg, SV Road and the Skywalk at Borivli West railway station. “We have registered offences against hawkers and given their wares to the BMC. We are also carrying out checks on paan stalls to verify whether gutkha is being sold,” said a senior police officer.
