Chennai: Former chief minister and DMK‘s Bodinayakanur candidate O Panneerselvam on Friday hit out at AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami for his ‘Covid death’ remark against chief minister M K Stalin, charging that AIADMK leader neither possesses “political decency nor a civilised approach”.“It is highly condemnable. people would hand Palaniswami his 11th defeat in the upcoming assembly election for such an attitude,” OPS said in a video message. “The way he speaks amounts to peak of indecency. He will never achieve success in politics by adopting such an uncivilised approach,” OPS said referring to the remark of EPS that “Stalin would have gone in Covid if not for AIADMK govt”.OPS said Stalin was the only leader who braved the pandemic and entered Covid wards to enquire about patients’ well-being after assuming charge as CM. However, Palaniswami lacked the courage demonstrated by the present CM but was boasting as if he had handled the pandemic well. DMK women leaders too criticised EPS for his remark that Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi would again land in Tihar jail, citing the pending 2G spectrum case. They demanded an apology from EPS and warned of legal action if he failed to do so. Addressing the media, former Rajya Sabha MP Dr Kanimozhi Somu said EPS was not a CM who was elected by people, but came to power by “falling at the feet of others”. “So his behaviour is understandable. I advise him to consult a doctor to assess his mental health,” she said. DMK leader Thamizhachi Thangapandian said Palaniswami’s remarks reflected the mindset of a “third-rate politician”. She said the party would initiate legal action against him for making ‘derogatory comments’ against Kanimozhi. DMK leaders also accused EPS of repeatedly making disparaging remarks against CM M K Stalin and deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin.
