Ahead of the April 9 elections, the BJP leader said the NDA government had brought down the unemployment rate in Puducherry to 4.3% after it had shot up to 47% due to the misrule of DMK and Congress. He also lashed out at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for allegedly calling Puducherry “a small region” at a separate rally;

“The alliance (Congress-DMK) partners are already fighting among themselves even before forming the government,” Shah said. “The CPI and CPI(M) have already left the INDIA bloc. DMK and Congress are also contesting against each other on five seats.”

Earlier in the day, Gandhi said: “It is clear that the government in Puducherry is not the expression of the people of Puducherry but is actually imposed from Delhi. There has always been the question of full statehood. It was promised by BJP, but they have not given it. We are fully committed to giving Puducherry full statehood.”
